Relief for Ringing Ears (Tinnitus)

Tinnitus /tinī´tǝs/ is the tinkling, ringing or hissing heard in one or both ears. It is estimated that 10 to 15 percent of the U.S. population is bothered by chronic head noise. A recent white paper published in The Hearing Review reports relief among 60 percent of patients from a sampling provided by 230 clinicians. The report concludes that citizens with ringing ears should seek the help of a clinician who is knowledgeable about treating tinnitus with hearing aids. Relief can now be achieved for most people. This study documents improvement achieved with the fitting of prescription hearing aids programmed with specific algorithms.
