Tinnitus /tinī´tǝs/ is the tinkling, ringing or hissing heard in one or both ears. It is estimated that 10 to 15 percent of the U.S. population is bothered by chronic head noise. A recent white paper published in The Hearing Review reports relief among 60 percent of patients from a sampling provided by 230 clinicians. Of this group, 22 percent said they received "major relief." This is good news for anyone with tinnitus.
According to Oregon Health Sciences University, 90 percent of patients with severe tinnitus also possess hearing loss. "One major inadvertent tragedy is the belief that tinnitus cannot be helped," said Sergei Kochkin, PhD, executive director of the Better Hearing Institute. "People, in addition to not seeking help for their tinnitus, also do not seek help for their hearing loss specifically because they concurrently have tinnitus."| About NewSound | Hearing Aids | Hearing Loss Education | How To Find Us | In The News... |
